Lead Sampling Technician

Description:
|
|
This
1-day class
provides Sampling Technicians with the basic information they need to perform their work. This includes background on health risks of lead; how to conduct a visual assessment and visual examination; how to collect dust wipe, paint chip, and soil samples plus an overview of how to use an XRF analyzer. Sampling Techs must also attend an additional 8-hour manufacturer's training before using an XRF. (NOTE: Sampling Technicians are required to work under the supervision of a certified lead Inspector/Risk Assessor.)

This is the minimum training required by HUD for contractors and their crews performing "interim controls" and working for jurisdictions receiving federal funds. This class does NOT count towards certification training.

is a 24 hour course and for
supervisors
40 hours.
Contractors should check with each city, county, agency they work for or wish to work for to determine the level of training each requires. Some jurisdictions require more training (i.e. certification) than this course provides.

Renovation, Repair & Painting (RRP) Initial Class
(EPA Accredited)

Description:
|
This 1-day (8-hr) class explains how to comply with EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. Subjects covered include: health effects, regulations, lead safe work practices, containment, cleaning & record keeping. After passing an end-of-class exam, students receive RRP Certificates.
Regulatory Authority: 40 CFR 745.90(a)(1) & 40 CFR Subpart L
To become a certified renovator, an individual must successfully complete the appropriate course accredited by EPA or by a State or Tribal program that is authorized by EPA. The course completion certificate serves as proof of certification. EPA renovator certification allows the certified individual to perform renovations in any State or Indian Tribal area that does not have a separate authorized State or Tribal renovation program.

Individuals who have successfully completed an accredited abatement worker or supervisor course, or individuals who have successfully completed an EPA, HUD, or EPA/HUD model renovation training course may take an accredited refresher renovator training course in lieu of the initial renovator training course to become a certified renovator.
